Academic Advisement
Each student is assigned an Academic Advisor when he/she gains admission to the University and prior to registering for courses. The Academic Advisor is normally appointed by the students' College Dean or by the students' appropriate Department Chairman with the approval of the Dean of the respective college. The Academic Advisor is expected to undertake the following duties:
Advising the student to read, fully understand and observe the terms and conditions relating to his admission to the University, as stated in his/her 'Letter of Acceptance.
Making himself available and meeting regularly with the student during office hours or when necessary by appointment throughout the academic year.
Helping the student to successfully meet Faculty and University requirements, in accordance with his/her study plan including those requirements stipulated for the award of the academic degree and graduation.
Reviewing the student's academic file and updating it with papers, documents, grades, and records on semester-by-semester basis.
Keeping the student aware of and familiar with the University's pertinent laws, by-laws and regulations, and reminding him/her of these regulations on continuous basis, or if and when, needed.
Providing other services and assistance as deemed appropriate.
The University advises its students to benefit from whatever service the Academic Advisor can give them and not to hesitate to call at his/her office for any kind of advice, consultation or assistance. Academic Advisors are intended to help students with their personal, academic, and vocational development, and their services are designed to complement the teaching mission of the University.
