Synopsis


The mission of the Department of Interior Design is to provide students with a solid foundation of basic interior design skills and to help them realize and develop their own creative vision. At the same time, the department aims at graduating students who are well-versed in the artistic traditions of Islamic and Western art as well as those of other civilizations, so they can easily understand and grasp cross cultural boundaries and adjust within a global culture shaped by advanced international media technology. Students can develop design concepts for interior spaces, and transform these concepts into practical, functional, and innovative environments to meet client needs. Architectural drafting, space planning, and computer-aided design are used to develop new concepts and to refine students’ individual skills and talents. Building systems, regulations and current business practices are taught to prepare students for their internships and professional careers in interior design. The program is based on the use of modern technology in developing ideas. Students are able through interior design to use advanced computer technology and thus, to develop interior design projects and have their work assessed by professional designers.

Objectives


Upon successful completion of the Bachelor's Degree in Interior Design, it is anticipated that the students will:

  • Manipulate the materials, colors and textures in use with creativity and originality.
  • Have in-depth knowledge in building systems and professional practice.
  • Analyze and draft interior spaces, convert their design concepts into final models.
  • Understand structure and interior construction; building systems and related codes; equipment and components; and plan and design space using computer-aided design software.
  • Understand professional business practices in interior design, communicate effectively with other designers and apply professional standards and regulations within their work.
  • Generate creative solutions to challenging assignments; demonstrate a clear understanding of project needs and marketing demands.
  • Communicate ideas effectively through written and oral presentations of their work.
  • Demonstrate strong quantitative and administrative skills.
  • Develop awareness of good design and its applications through the study of art and interior furnishings.
  • Develop basic drawing skills, to better understand the use of color in interiors and the effect color has on daily life.
  • Understand space and how it can be utilized best for the residential interior and to make it work effectively for its occupants.
  • Understand period design and decoration throughout history.
  • Understand the evolution of furnishings.
