IUST Vision, Tasks and Objectives
Higher Education is playing an
instrumental role in the overall process of progress and
development. The major concern of decision-makers in
higher education, nowadays, is to contribute to the
country's sustainable and comprehensive development.
In
Syria, great emphasis is now being placed on the sector
of higher education, under the guidance and supervision
of the Syrian Ministry of Higher Education, given the
vital, crucial and constructive impact of this sector on
the increased productivity and global competitiveness of
the country's
economic, industrial, health, social and business
sectors. Over the past decade, the higher education
sector in Syria has witnessed drastic changes and
reforms in the form, content, delivery and methodologies
of instruction, with the ultimate objective of attaining
sound standards of higher education qualifications, and
encouraging continuous improvement in the management of
the quality of higher education.
Against this background, the
International University for Science and Technology
(IUST) was established to serve as a pioneering
institution of higher education and
as a
pillar of endogenous capacity-building. In that, the
University will
join
hands with the various sectors to contribute to the
country's ongoing growth and change by means of
training a selected group of students and
graduates who will contribute, meaningfully and
effectively, upon their graduation, to the economy of
knowledge of the third millennium.
IUST
seeks to provide a platform of quality-oriented programs
and academic excellence for:
-
The acquisition of new and ever-changing knowledge
and its dissemination and extension of its
applications beyond the boundaries of the campus.
-
The encouragement of intellectual independence and
personal initiative towards creativity and
innovation.
-
Contributing to the sustainable development of the
local and regional communities.
-
The advancement of the output of scientific research
and academic studies and the employment of knowledge
and technology in industrial applications.
-
The provision of life-long continuous education and
the acquisition of knowledge and know-how within the
context of a lifelong perspective.
-
The support of high-caliber research papers,
publications, and studies that address timely issues
of paramount importance.
-
The mounting of academic symposia, conferences, and
colloquies that foster the sharing of high-level
expertise necessary to accelerate socio-economic
progress.
-
The rendering of consultations and services
streamlined to serve developmental plans and
societal needs.
To
attain its desired objectives,
IUST
will demonstrate a continuing commitment
to adopting constructive dialogue and
interaction by means of supporting free expression,
critical thinking and diversity in ideas; fostering the
growth of humane values and protecting individuals'
human rights; and abiding to the principles of equality,
equity, justice, equal opportunities and freedom.
IUST Objectives:
IUST
strives to be a major research-led and
excellence-oriented institution of higher education with
