English Language and Literature
» Synopsis:
The mission of the Department of English Language
and Literature (DELL) is to develop students'
skills in composition, creative writing, linguistics,
and literature. In that, the DELL offers a broad
and well-balanced curriculum designed to develop
the reading and writing skills, the interpretative
abilities, and the cultural awareness of its
students by maintaining and enhancing a tradition
of strong teaching, solid scholarship, and vigorous
support of creative literary activity.
It is anticipated that graduates of the department
will be well equipped to continue their education
towards advanced degree programs and to pursue
careers in teaching, law, publishing, arts and
other areas in which the ability to read and
write the English language effectively is paramount.

» Goals and Objectives:
Upon successful completion of the Bachelor's
Degree in English Language and Literature, it
is anticipated that the students will:
1. Communicate effectively in an English-speaking
environment, as well as to succeed in college
and university courses.
2. Acquire outstanding skills in written and
oral expression in English.
3. Gain thorough understanding of English within
its historic and cultural context.
4. Possess research tools, critical processes
and analytic skills necessary for functioning
effectively in today’s English-based information
environment.
5. Have an understanding of the role which literature
plays in society and culture.
